It's a shame to lose this historic structure! When I saw a post on it yesterday, my first reaction was to see if it was a belated April fools gag.
It sure is hard to imagine how a kid playing with matches can "accidentally" burn down a bridge. You wonder what the parents were doing. OK - I see now that he apparently started a brush fire that spread to the bridge...

What a shame, thats very very troubling. Hate to hear this.
Here are is 1 image I shot a year ago, nothing special but I guess about all I have now. Wish I had taken more, but I planned to on my next trip. Advise I've recently read from a sucessful photographer, dont put off what you can shoot today. Sadly, how true.
I was on-duty when this call came out, which was originally reported only as a brush fire in the area of Dewey Bridge. The family whose child lit the fire drove to near I-70 before they were able to get cell coverage to call 911. I have no idea if any charges will be filed but it certainly seems as though they are warranted.
Bret, I don't know the laws in Utah, but in Colorado a child under 10 can't be charged with anything. My guess is Utah isn't going to be much different. Whether anything can be done to the parents is another thing entirely. If nothing else, it would be nice to see them help financially responsible. Usually a hit to the wallet has more impact than a threat of a fine, which is usually less...
Can you keep us in tune with what is happening with this?
Pam,
You should submit this picture to the icons thread. Great shot.

Wow, that really is a shame!
But you're all a little too willing to hang the parents right now.
They might be guilty of some negligence and they might not.
As a parent to 3 exceptionally well behaved kids in this age bracket - I still can't keep track of what they're doing 100% of the time. And how many of us never did anything stupid when we were 7, more so at 17! I'm certainly not defending anything but maybe just adding a little perspective.
edit: Just read the rest of the comments on the story page - guess we could have the same discussion here...or not. (some posts were pretty funny).

In hindsight, I wished I would have stopped and photographed the bridge on since I always pass it on the way home.
Great Shot Pam!
