I've been a bit stagnant photographically lately so I haven't been participating here much. Hopefully, the slow change of seasons will remedy things. I did just return from a trip to Page and that has helped to get the juices flowing again. I'd like to get people's opinion on the image above. It's the result of a two image manual blend in photoshop (the images were exposed 4 stops apart).
I really had no plans to shoot Horseshoe Bend on this trip, but I decided to take the little woman out there (she'd never seen it) since it was heavily overcast evening and I had pretty much given up shooting for the day. As luck would have it, the clouds started breaking up a bit just as the sun was setting. The resulting sunset was nothing fantastic, but it was enough to give a little color right behind the scene.
Sweet!
I'll be taking my first trip ever out there this weekend, and the Bend is on my list to shoot. I can only hope to have such phenomenal lighting!
Thanks everyone! I do think I'll hang on to the rights to this one for a little while anyway!! Thanks for the suggestion, Mel. I'll have to see what I can do with the reflection idea.
John, we visited a lot of the basic places...the Antelope slots, Alstrom Point, Horseshoe, etc. It was Tami's first visit to Page and she wanted to see all that stuff. Since she's not a morning person, I spent my mornings checking out the Cottonwood Cyn Road and surrounding areas. Unfortunately, the light was very finicky during the golden hours so I rarely got that trademarked red rock glow I was looking for. We also bagged a hike up Buckskin Gulch due to crappy light. I'm not complaining though. I still felt like I came away with a number of keepers and Tami really enjoyed the getaway.

Excellent shot Guy! I have a collection of 4x5s of this classic scene, but NOTHING that comes even close to your shot. Well Done!
Great shot Guy. Just like the Horseshoe Bend shot on ESS, I like the green along the river!! I like the idea of blending the color of the reflection in the river from the same shot as the sky. That's sky is really nice!! If you had "good clouds" there would be too much color up high in the sky and it would be hard to fit it into the shot. Great work.

Definitely an awesome image, Guy. Probably the best I have seen from there. Great job processing.

The reflection fix idea earlier is a good one.
So, where else did you go while you were there?
