I've been fortunate to have a pretty good year for print sales so far, which is cool, because last year kinda stunk for that! Anyway, my most recent sale was particularly cool because they were nice big prints, all 4 foot by 7 foot! I love it when that happens! Three of them, and they will be hanging in a restaurant out at DIA. It will be interesting to see if I end up with any web traffic from these since they will have my name on them. Past experience says no, but we'll see.
Two are from 4x5 transparency film, and the third from 120 trans(shown above). They turned out great, even though I was a bit concerned about the 120 one. You can certainly see a bit more grain in the sky areas, but from a normal viewing distance, it held up wonderfully!
It's sales like this that make me keep shooting the 4x5 stuff, even though digital is certainly creeping into my thoughts. In fact on a recent trip to Utah, I shot almost 9GB on a borrowed digital, and only 24 sheets of 4x5! So I guess what I'm saying is I just have to be multi format guy! Doh!
Sorry to toot my own horn, but thought some might be interested in the larger prints. Thanks for looking!
Congratulations on the sale, dude! Those prints look awesome. Next time I'm in DIA (who knows when that will be) I'll have to check 'em out in person. Keep those sales coming!
Congrats. They look great. And you'd be doing a bunch of stitching to get that outta 35mm.
Don't get me wrong, 35mm digital has its place and I can't see myself ditching it. Its light and compact and ready to shoot on the fly. Its really nice to go right to work on images without having to worry about scanning or development. For that matter its nice to never buy film. But LF is sweet for this.
Hopefully this sale would fund a nice 35mm camera for you.
Which restaurant? I'll be heading through DIA (on vacation) next month and would like to see them.
Congrats, Brent! Those look awesome, I'm really diggin that 2nd one, I'll have to check them out next time I'm out to "the circus tent in the middle of nowhere".
Thanks guys! They will be in a place called Lefty's, out on Concourse C, I believe the far east end . They are redoing the entire place, so not really sure when they will be up and ready. Plus, they still need to go to the framer. Glad I'm not paying that part of the bill!
Brent,,,,Isn't it encouraging to start off a year with a great sale! There all great but #2 is a killer. Hopefully you'll recieve some additional orders.
Grant, not sure who is doing the framing for them. I'm just delivering the mounted prints. Looking forward to seeing what they do with them though!
Thanks for the comment on the rainbow image. The one above isn't the exact piece of film, but shot maybe a minute later than the big print one. That ranks up there as one of the single best mornings of shooting I've had in years! It was the last day of my 2005 fall trip, and I had gotten rained on all night up on Wilson Mesa near Telluride. Woke to lots of wind, but some nice light peeking through around Wilson Peak. After sunrise, I headed to the top of the mesa, came over the crest of a hill, and there was the rainbow!! About drove off the road!
The best part was that the rainbow stayed around for a complete hour! Amazing. Needless to say, I shot a lot of film that morning! Here are a bunch more from that entire morning: Wilson Mesa 2005
Congratulations dude!!!! That's fantastic! Every time I think about selling my LF gear, I see or hear something like this, and think there's no way I can completely give it up. The prints look great - can't wait to see them in person.
It'd be ironic if the funds from this sale go to pay for a new DSLR?

Mel-
I'll definitely make a point of checking them out, on one of my "occassional" trips through DIA.
