Olympus e-3, 300 f2.8 plus 1.4 tc, iso100 manual mode 1/200s at F5.6, manual focus and live view to fine tune, IS off, tripod Olympus anti shake at 5 seconds (= mirror lock) .Orf converted to .Dng and processed in CS2
Thanks guys, I was quite surprised just how much underexposure needed dialling in to prevent the whites blowing, hence the granularity showing.
What I have noticed with this shot is just how much improved the E-3 is over the E-1 for this type of shot. My earlier moon shot attempts with the E-1 body usually resulted in horrible noise that needed a fair bit of work in curves to return to pure black background again. This shot is pretty much straight out of the can cropped, resized and sharpened and a levels lift

Mike,
As an ex-astronomer I have to say that image is sweet! Reminds me of why I started stargazing in the first place

Nice shot.

Very, very nice image!
An attractive 'phase', with the base being illuminated {i assume its a time-of-the-year thing}.
