why go to gigrin...
...when you can chase (not literally of course) kites up and down hills in the chilterns,

from yesterday at aston rowant (the reserve on either side of where the M40 slices through the hill)
can be tricky getting close without just getting a silhouette as they fly directly over you, does help though that the hill is steep and that they worm further down the hill

not up to the gigrin standard but the only kite shots i've got

350D + 300 F4L + 1.4 extender
1/4000 @ F6.3
ISO 400
cropped

Very nice! I like the way the light falls on the whole length of the body and a wing.

That looks very good Jack... how much of a crop? It doesn't look too extreme. No tag either.... which can ruin images of re-introduced birds.

Hi John, that's a timely and very nice shot as I shall be visiting them on the 21st as I travel up from the south coast. Last time, I found several birds worming on the arable field just as you turn off the road. It was interesting to see that as the sun came up and the shadows shortened, they came in closer and closer. Presumably as the sun warmed the field it was driving the worms down off the surface so they were following the shadow,

Gigrin is too far, and awkward for me to visit, but there are occasional sightings in my area...................maybe one day i will get lucky with these birds

Hi jack

Just down the road is the village of watlington, from the centre of the village there is a road which leads up the hill towards the reserve the kites can often be found sitting in the trees on the side of the road(more so during the winter months)

Great Shot by the way!!
