Pool Surprise
Firecrest 2007
Every now and then a surprise turns up at the pool. It's when you literally do fall off the seat ! The dilemma with a new bird is whether to wait a while and let it settle or go for it straight away.
If you disturb a new one they rarely come back. This bird was so fast it made a goldcrest I'd had the week before look tortoise like !
I waited a while and then got three shots. The bird was actually sitting on the leaf floating in the water!.
It came back two days later and i got another shot or two. Wonderful times !
D200
Sigma 100-300 mm.
ISO 640
125th @ f 7.1
Low contrast
Exposure comp - down one stop.

I can only imagine what a nice surprise that must have been when this little beauty landed! I think I'd have fluffed the shot in all the excitement  A lovely shot.

It just goes to show the more skilled you are the luckier you get. Great shot.

Thanks
The first firecrest I saw was in the Spanish Pecos near the Fuente De lift. When this one turned up at the pool I thought Crikey that's a bright Goldcrest.
Like I said - wonderful moments which can never be truly conveyed to people but they make all the long hours worthwhile.Lets face it there's no such thing as the present. Its gone and is a memory so all we have are memories and thoughts of the future.
Heck - that's heavy !
Cheers

You've certainly had a large variety of special birds visit your pools John, and made the most of the opportunities you have worked for!!

Yet another cracking result :toast: :toast:

Absolutly delightful! I've now seen two fabulous Firecrest images in a week on this forum which is doubly nice since they're one of my favorite UK birds. Your pool work has been inspirational and has breathed a little bit of fresh air into this forum. Terrific stuff!
