I captured this image well before sunrise. I had no idea what the sky might look like, however I knew it was cloudy (no stars out and periods of light rain). I had a difficult time finding something in my viewfinder because of the darkness. I was ill prepared, not dressed warm enough, no flashlight either. But it turned out to be one of my favorite images of my entire weekend in Grand Marais, MN. Sometimes it’s just good to be lucky I guess. Obviously I like this image. I’m curious about your thoughts.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Welcome to the Midwest forum, Mike!
I really like the deep blues in this image. They evoke a strong feeling of cold isolation. The single (or double) yellow light is the perfect compliment and suggests a safe, warm refuge. This works very well for me. Nicely seen -- or not seen as the case may be.
On the technical side, my only suggestion would be to crop a bit off the top so that the horizon doesn't equally split the image.
Nice Mike - I like it too. I think Chuck's comment about the crop is a possibility, but I can see several crops if you wish, crop some sky, crop some water, make it a pano. But I definitely like it exactly as is - good work.

Definitely crop the water.. That's a sweet sky! Nice one....
Nice image Mike, I like the contrast of the blues with the warmth of the light as well. I havene't been up to Grand Marais for a while now, so it's fun to see a photo of the place. The water crop makes sense to me too. It works as is, but the 50/50 comp is a touch on the static side. Nice to see another Minnesotan around!

Love the blues in this image with the yellow light, but I do agree regarding a crop..just enough to take the horizon off center.
