Up close and personal
Another one from my MPE-65, this time of a queen wasp in my garden. She'd been crawling around on some ivy for a while but wouldn't stand still and face me. Finally she did for a second or two and I managed to take 2 shots, this being the best.

MPE-65, 1/160, f13, ISO 100, Speedlight on off-camera bracket and diffuser.

All C+C appreciated.

Very nice macro shot Matt. It's amazing how much more interesting these creatures are when nagnified this much.

Nice! I like the diagonal formed by the leaf and the position of the antennae, great level of detail.

Nice close up Matt.
The drooping antenna is throwing me a bit but no big deal.
(These remind ne of the wife with the eyes in the back of the head ! oops ! )

Hi Matt,

Stunning macro shot. Excuse my ignorance, but is a MPE-65 a body or lens  If it is a lens can it bought in Canon mount?

Regards

Rob

PS Just answered my questions via Google!! How do you find the lens, from the sound of the review, you have to be very close to the subject??

thanks very much for the comments.

Rob, it takes a bit of getting used to, but there's no other lens like it. The working distance is incredibly small - from 4 inches at 1:1 magnification down to 1.6 inches at 5:1. But it is capable of amazing results.

best wishes
Matt

A lovely macro with great detail. With those working distances, do you manage to get close to many insects etc? I borrowed an MPE-65 a while back and found it very hard to find a subject .. ended up with lots of shots of stamens!

thanks Paul and Dave.

Dave, so far I've not struggled too much, although I don't think I'll be using it very often on dragonflies  The beauty of the lens is that even the tiniest insects now become viable subjects to photograph and there's always something around. I spent some time photographing springtails the other day - some of them were only around 4mm! My Flickr site below shows what I've managed to photograph so far (I've only had the lens a couple of weeks). It's a great lens but I'm still itching to get my Sigma 150 out once the dragons and damsels appear

Hello Matt.

Lovely closeup with superb detail. I love macro work and have though about buying one of these lenses. Shots like this are making me want it sooner rather than later. :wavey:

Really good close-up. A lens well worth persevering with.

Just had a look at your Flickr site Matt. Some impressive shots there for sure. This is another. You seem to have hit the ground running with this lens.
