I was thinking about checking out Glacier Gorge this weekend. So I was wondering if anyone knew what the trail or lake conditions are like? I would imagine there is still a good amount of snow up there. And the lakes are probably still frozen - don't know if the ice waves are still there.

Has anyone checked it out recently?

I was up there 2 weeks ago and it was very windy, cold with plenty of snow and ice. It was a great time. Our camera equipment was skating across Dream Lake by itself. From what I have heard the lakes are still frozen through mid May.

Thanks Jim!

So it sounds like you were walking on the lake. Were the ice waves still present?

Yes I was walking on the lake and the ice waves were still present. The ice was over 24 inches thick and the ice waves were awesome.

I may be heading that way too. Plans are still fluid for me. THE VIP thing disolved.

I haven't been out in a few weeks due to a bit of a fall, but I'm heading out with some friends in the morning to check it out. From what I hear, there is a lot of fresh snow up there right now even though here in Estes we are snow free. I can provide a better update later tomorrow if that wouldn't be too late for you.

I 'almost' went today. But I have been fighting this darn bug. And 2:00am comes really early when you are not at 100%. But I am already looking at the calendar to go soon, maybe next week. So any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Derek,

I went up to Lake Haiyaha today via Nymph and Dream Lakes. I bet you wouldn't believe this, but it was very windy with lots of blowing snow. There is a 70" base at Bear Lake and the higher you go the more fresh snow you will find. Despite the wind, Dream Lake and the other lakes up there are still covered by snow. I could only see one small patch of ice. I crossed the lakes but, not sure how thick they actually are. It is still very much winter up there with lots of great winter opportunities.

Muchos Gracias Erik for the current report!

I may wait a bit for some of that snow to melt or blow off the lakes. Although a 70" base is really deep! And windy, who would of thought. :jump:
