One from the other day as well.

Where i set up my log the sun was bright behind and was causing all kinds of probs so thought i would try metering off bright bit and try something different, i quite like it!!

Nikon D2xs
Sigma 500mm
Tripod/393
RAW
ISO 200
1/1250th at F5.6
Manual

Be gentle if you hate it!!

i do like the idea, but i reckon the squirrel needs to be a bit more side on to get a more classic outline, also could do with a bit more sharpening

I suspect there will be slightly differing views with this Andy,

It works for me, in that the creature is instantly recognisable in silhouette, and the orange light is deeply coloured. I'm not quite sure whether this framing is getting the best out of the shot, and whether the extra element {light area in the bottom right, containing the tail hair}, is adding or detracting.

Only personal taste, but if it was mine, i would crop to square {cropping just above that area, and a touch off the top}, just to reduce the number of elements, and give a more abstract feel.

Just my personal take on this shot, and probably different eyes will have different, and more suitable ideas than me!

I can see there's a potential there Andy - but how you'd go about achieving it is a mystery to me matey

Hi Andy it works fine by me just a pity you never sharpened it up to give it more impact.

Hi Andy,

To be honest...

I like it! Sharpen it up and it'll improve it I reckon!

I rather like it too and agree that is needs crisper edges.

Like it as a different take on the lovely reds and telling the tale of the early start. Part of photography is about what you leave out, whether that be colour, detail, composition etc, so it works for me.

Perhaps a crop off the bottom, or if the opportunity arose, a similar shot with the tail up in that "classic" squirrel pose?
