Pheasant
Nikon D300
Nikon 300mm f4 & TC 1.7
1/320 @ f7.1
Tripod & ball head

Woke up to another morning of heavy snow and still no insects. Cleared up in the afternoon, though and managed to grab 20 minutes in the garden to try out new lens. I brought it for dragons and leps mainly but with the 1.7 converter I am hoping that it will prove to be a useful, light weight bird lens for hillwalking, etc.

Nice Pheasant head shot. The whites are a little blown and I always put the camera on low contrast doing a bird like this also with great tits and pied waggies for wxample. Any head with a white patch in it .
Cheers

Hi Malcolm,

Very nice portrait! I do agree the whites are a touch hot! (I have a slight problem with blowing whites too!)

Nicely done Malcolm :toast:

Whites seem right on the edge on my screen, and suspect a touch more detail could be dragged from the raw image, if required.

Nice portrait - the whites look just about OK to me. Great detail.

Great detail in the plumage, whites directly below the eye perhaps tiny bit blown but otherwise fine to me. Wish I had pheasants in the garden
