Hi all:

I've been studying these two monitors to figure out if either or both can be calibrated correctly using something like the Spyder Pro 3. Sounds like out of the box, both are very bright. I haven't been able to find definite answers on calibration accuracy for either.

Is anyone out there using either of these 2 monitors and calibrating them with any hardware calibration systems?

Pros/Cons??

Thx.
Keith

I have a Dell 2007, and I think structurally it is similar to the 2407, the 2707 and the 3007 series. I also use the Spyder2 PRO. I never really realized the use for my calibrator, but then I found out that the monitor is so good that you cannot appreciate the calibrator.

I've no problems calibrating a 2407 with a Monaco system. Yes, the Dell's can be quite bright, but can be turned down with the OSD controls.

Calibrating your monitor is one of the most important steps one can take toward having a color managed workflow. It is very important to ensure that the screen brightness matches a 'paper' white as closely as possible. This is especially important if you are making prints because you will suffer much less frustration, and will save on paper and ink, as well.

Preston: Fully agree. I'm currently a bit a a fanatic about calibration. I calibrate once a month. I'm still using a CRT monitor, but it is clear that I won't be able to get a new one when I replace it. Hence the questions looking for how well the subject monitors behave with calibration. I know that there are other LCD monitors that are better for color accuracy such as Eizo and an NEC 2490, but both are considerably more expensive.

Copy that, Keith. I have heard of issues with LCD screen brightness being too bright even when the brightness control is set to minimum. Hopefully the Dell does not have this problem.

I have two Dell CRT's and I really like them the and ease with which I can calibrate them. They are still going strong and I am not looking forward to the day when I have to replace them LCD's.

I'm using a Dell 2007 and calibrate with Eye-one. I've found it interesting that it's hard to find any reference on this with web searches, but at least my monitor requires manual tuning in of brightness and contrast beyond the color calibration. This is slightly by gosh and by golly. It's a nice monitor, but I think if I were buying again, I'd go with a different brand, maybe HP.
