Yeah because I was born and raised in Kansas I just had to post this. I have struggled with this image and have determined that I just can't get it to look as good as I want. I wanted the big sky above the bison, but being taken in late morning the bright light just produces to much over exposure to be able to get any real detail in the sky. (sounds like I know what I'm talking about huh, Whatever the case it just isn't working for me.
I wanted to share it anyway, for fun and something different. The weather here just isn't really cooperating for any spring like shots. Can you believe we had snow flakes falling yesterday!
I am really enjoying all the photos being shared by everyone.
Thanks all for the inspiration and great work!
Under the circumstances, you did a fine job Brad. We've had some impressive cloud formations the last couple days, but the 20-40mph winds and cold temps have kept me home. Hopefully the 70s they are predicting this week will happen :).
It works for me Brad. What I like to call a big sky shot.

Real nice shot Brad. Where did you find these buffalo? I like the wide open sky personally.
I got the chance a few years back to "work" some buffalo on a ranch just west of Salina. That afternoon we went out into the pasture to supplement the herd's feed and got to actually stand amongst them (next to the truck). I was trying to get some shots with a 24mm lens and in most cases couldn't get a full body image because they were so close. The bulls are impressive, 5 1/2' at the shoulder!
I know where there are some closer to KC ... I need to get out and get a few more shots of this icon of the prairie! Thanks for sharing!
Looks great to me, Brad. I think the wide open sky makes this shot, and I especially like how the clouds lead my eye to the one bull on top of the hill that seems to be in charge. He's the only one not grazing - seems to be watching over the rest of the herd. Very nice work indeed!

Wayne to answer your question, this shot was taken on the Konza Prairie, quickly becoming my second home. The Flint Hills have an unending supply of photo opportunities as I'm sure you know. It will probably be one of my main subjects this year at least.
And Bill, the big bull one the hill is looking over the heard I do believe and was paying close attention to me as I approached. I chose not to get any closer due to the fact that there are presently calves in some of the herds right now, and mommies and daddies can get a liiiitle bit testy if you know what I mean.
As for all the comments, you all are too nice. I really appreciate the positive feedback. I think I'm not going to give up on this shot yet. I might have to do a little more tweaking and maybe see what it looks like in print.
Thanks to everyone.
