Cant get enough snow, so i drove late night through the driving snow over Hoosier, knowing the showers would end by sunrise and provide some nice light. I got to Ute Pass about an hour before sunrise, snowshoed up the side hill a quarter mile or so (the few motorists must have though i was nuts) and quickly raced around looking for comps (while avoiding a cornice!). Always fun when you havent pre-scouted a location
Here's one of the Gore Range just after sunrise (i love my new 70-300)
I originally didnt like the blue shot Todd once posted of the Sangres, that is now the 'January' page of his calendar. But after looking at it all of January (hanging by my frig) it grew on me, so i stole the idea, using the Gore Range as a backdrop.
Well, the light at midday snowshoeing at Guanella (road closure) was not good, but i still got a few decent comps. Thats all for now--more at ESS!

I really like the light in that first one and the comp of the fourth. I like the idea on the third one, but I think I'd prefer it cropped to a pano. Maybe with a little off the top and the bottom brought up so the fg ridge line starts in the the bottom left corner..
Psychological counseling can help you get over these urges to get up in the middle of the night, leave a warm house, and go snowshoeing up steep inclines where there isn't any oxygen.
