Only clean shot
A few weeks ago a friend and I were at the waterfront in Muskegon, MI. While he was feeding the numerous waterfowl and gulls, I managed to get only one clean shot of the swans. I don't normally condone feeding them, but must admit it was fun watching them fight over the food.
Specs: Pentax K10D, SMC Pentax FA 80-320 @ 320mm, f8 @ 1/800, iso 100

Toni - interesting lighting - did you darken the background in post processing or is that how it looked. I like it....

Hey, I see you used a K10D. How do you like it? Have you been using it a while and I just missed it? I have the same camera now and I'm using it for a couple of projects, though I still love the large format most of the time. I want to get a couple of the new USM zoom lenses, but I'm waiting to hit the lottery to do that!

Thanks, CJ. It's just the way it turned out with the sun shining directly on the swan. The water was rather dark looking anyway and using that shutter speed helped to darken the background even more.

As for the camera..I love it and have had it for a little over a year now. Last spring I broke the screen on the back and had to use my backup *ist-DS2..what a difference! Being able to over/under expose at the simple touch of the dial and having the shake reduction on the K10 has spoiled me. Not one complaint about it from me!

One little thing I discovered last fall with the white balance...no problem getting the right shade of vibrant fall colors when I specifically chose a custom setting for that.....color temp 5000 along with +2 Amber and +2 Magenta.

Nice catch Tony. The lighting is interesting, I thought it was flashed at first glance, but its actually all natural light? Regardless, it seems that the background would add little to anything. I'm sure you made the most out of the oppertunity.

CJ going digital? *gasp*

Nice capture, Toni. The detail of the water droplets along the neck are fantastic!

Toni - sounds great. You don't hear much about the camera in the mass media, but I got it because it had basically all the features I wanted (well, except 40 MP!), and I already had Pentax lenses I could use.....

Joel - LOL! Especially after you just posted a digital montage!! Actually, I'd happily go digital if I could get a small view camera and one of those 40+ MP backs. However, since I can buy and process film for the next 15 years on the money THAT digital system would cost, I'll stick with LF for the serious landscape work. I DO have a local calendar project that I'm using digital for - no sense burning LF film/processing for something much more simple. But I didn't even pull the digital out of the bag on the last photo trip - it was all MF and LF film. Now if I can just get it processed....... :jump:

Thanks guys!

Joel...natural light here. I hate to use flash and will only do so if forced to.

CJ..smart move! That's why I stayed with Pentax when I went digital, too. It just didn't make any sense to get anything else when I had the lenses already. Besides that, the camera is very easy to use, even once you get into the back of the menu with the numerous settings.
