Hudonography 101
On a 3 day road trip with Larry to various parts of Oregon and Washington...

We came across this little town in Oregon called Mayville....not much going on there and we pretty much had the place to ourselves....

I am still working on the art of this kind of stuff.....

maybe it needs a tighter crop? who knows......anyway.....because of all the different kinds of images I see here and on Flickr, I feel it's good for me to get out and try new things.....

here is one attempt

Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 70 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Darren, this is cool and the weathered red is great. I like the comp as it is, and my favorite part is the lock!

I don't know what it is about these types of photos that I like. I like the vast and varied colors and the sometimes odd shapes. I like that someone lived there once and may have looked out that window a lot. The real trick, IMHO, is to get some emotion into the photo somehow. You have to make people think about the photo, I think that's the ticket.

I like this a lot Darren, nice work.

Great photo Darren! and Mark, your comments hit it just right. I think this photo is a poignant example.
Good on you both.

I like this a lot Darren. The time-weathered paint and black window panes really set the mood for this shot. I see your Hudonograph and raise you 2 Venetion blinds... in hopes that the smaller person was able to convince the taller to provide a more diverse view than a barn across the street.

Cool shot, Darren - I like the weathered red and the diagonal white boards.. I, too like doing these sorts of things from time to time. Great name for the technique, too..

I like it also. The lock makes me wonder what 'wonders' are in there.

It IS a great name for the technique, Ned! Mark has duly earned it for his love of the subject and his technical and artistic mastery of it. Look how inspirational they are... Hudonograph. Yep, I like it.

Darren's and Larry's photos in this thread are such good examples. And other comments reflect what is so interesting about them: the lock, what's inside, who lived there, why did they leave, the passing of time...

Thanks Everyone for taking this so lightly...I was somewhat concerned that it might stir some emotions and I did not want to have it look like I was in anyway demeaning Mark's style....

It was also brought to my attention in another forum where I posted this same image that it might be cool to just shoot the old rusty lock area....full frame....somehow I missed that when I shot this.....this will give me a good reason to go back! :toast:

P.S.

If you like visiting old dive bars/saloons like I do....I recommend Round up Bar in Condon, OR.....Say hi to Donna!
