I've been doing a bit of work on the Locations page of our site. I added three Ohio locations that I am familiar with. I hope these will inspire you to submit your own locations and fill these pages with information for our members.

Submissions may include one image of approximately 60kb (210 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi). Please include links to any external information on the area.

I will include the name of the person submitting the article so that others can contact the author for additional information.

Once a location has been submitted, it will be possible to piggy-back information into the article. (But the first person to submit a location has the opportunity to chose the image.)

Let me know if you think there's a better way to handle these pages. This is a first pass that evolved even as I worked on it.

Looking forward to your submissions,
Chuck

Chuck - Question about the images: Do the submitted files always have to equal 210x140 pixels? What about vertical images, or images that are a different aspect ration than 3:2? Some more details are required before I begin submitting.

Thanks.

Joel, I appreciate your thoughts and for reminding me that not everyone shoots 35mm.

My intention is to keep image sizes relatively small so that the pages load quickly. All of the images I posted were under 60K. If we can keep to that size -- more or less -- I don't think we'll have a problem. Vertical images are fine, as are other aspect ratios. I don't plan on strictly policing file sizes -- the size I chose seemed to fit the space.

I had thought about the possibility of linking to larger images from the submitting person's web site, but decided that, over time, the URLs might change and the links would no longer work -- too much hassle to keep up with.

Let me know if you think this file size is too small and we can discuss adjustments. This is, and will continue to be, a work in progress with everyone having an opportunity for input.

Thanks!

Sounds good Chuck.

Perhaps a good guideline then is "210px in the longest dimension, and under 60Kb". Thanks!

Chuck: Just thinking out loud. I am wondering if there is a way to group similar topic locations in one place (e.g., "Michigan Waterfalls"--I have several locations I will be submitting to you, but in Michigan alone, there are many falls)? Just a thought. Don't know how this would be done, mechanically.

On the thumbs, I just used your smallest dimension and let PS determine the larger (most of mine come out at 140 x 205)

Thanks to everyone who has submitted locations. Once I've had a chance to get these on the site, I'll post an update. Keep those cards and letters coming.

Andy, re your post 4/20. I'll give that some thought. I may have to look at what comes in and see if there are logical subgroups.
