Taken outside a well known fast food outlet while i was walking about on my lunch break testing a lens on the feral doves in Manchester city centre... Even better... they have a nest!

High crop D40 and Sigma 100-300mm f4 ISO400

A record shot due to the location.

Btw Paul, i've picked up a SH 100-300 f4 as you may of spotted, but i'm noticing it seems to front focus by a mile on the D40, so i'm testing it on the big rig today.

Hi Paul,

Yes I had and did wonder how your getting on with! I'll be watching your posting to see how it is going as it may suit my gap for a light-weight, mid-range lens! I been seiously thinking of the Sigma 300mm f/2.8!

I'm after something hand holdable and as light as possible. The all the 300 f2.8's are about 2.6KG plus, which is about 1 KG less than the 500, the 100-300 is about 1.4kg so again about a KG less, with the drop of one stop.

Plus with a 1.4X you get a 420mm f5.6 eqv lens. which make is long enough for crawling about with and poking out of bushes. I just need this front focus fixing.

Hi Paul,

I know but it doesn't feel too heavy in the hand! I do like the idea of this 100-300mm zoom though as it is much lighter! Loss of one-stop doesn't bother me!

Enjoy and I hope you get that front focusing sorted out shortly!
