Darwin, Royce Howland (a Calgary-based photographer) and I met today with some representatives from the Parks division of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation as well as from the federal mountain parks.
It sounds like the governments are coming more on line with allowing individual freelancers to take pictures in the parks without requiring an advance permit or payment of fees. We are hoping to see official statements to this effect within the next week or so.
So, a big THANKS to all of you who took the time to write or email your concerns--they made a huge difference and we definitely got the attention of the government!
Stay tuned for confirmation of our discussions today with the parks people.

Sam, Darwin and Royce - A HUGE THANKS for all your efforts ref this situation. I am happy to have done my little part but all of us who photograph the beauty of this province owe you three a very sincere
I look forward to an offical release and paperwork I can carry around in my bag.
This is good news. I'm about to take my first photography trip to Canada next month. It will cost me many thousands of dollars by the time I'm done. I was afraid it would be both my first and last trip. I'll now use this trip to plan my next trip to Canada....
This is great news. While we may accept your thanks we only provided some written thoughts. You, Sam, Darwin and Royce, carried and continue to carry the torch forward. Without you guys we would not even know there was an issue to be addressed.
Those on the front line are the true leaders. THANK YOU for all you are doing.
Samantha, Darwin, Royce and any others who worked to accomplish this. Thanks more than you know. Alberta is such a beautiful and wonderful place and I'd hate not to be able to come back every couple of years. Thanks for all your hard work!
