Was there any frost or freeze damage to the flowers in the Smokies? It wasn't as bad here as predicted, so hopefully it wasn't bad up there either.

Alice, I'm in the Creekwood Campground in Maggie Valley tonight. We didn't get here until 8 PM so I didn't get to see much but the redbud and other flowering trees along I-40 looked fine from Asheville out to Maggie Valley. I plan to head over to the park tomorrow and Friday. I'll post what I see tomorrow.

We had three or four inches of snow at my house but it looks like everything came through it fine, except maybe some of the fragile budding tree leaves. That's OK, because they'll be back. Shouldn't have been a problem at lower elevations. It wasn't as cold as predicted.

Thanks guys. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as predicted. Lori, did you get any photos of the snow? Bet it was pretty, although I prefer snow in the winter!

Alice, I was all the way through the Park today and it doesn't look like there was any damage to the flowers. Fringed Phacelia in the Chimneys area was the hardest hit last year when the big freeze hit and it looked great today. All the trilliums looked fine as well. I really didn't see any sign of the weather except some left over snow up at Newfound Gap on the north facing slopes. Things really looked great all over the Park. I'll be out again tomorrow.

Matthew, sorry for not getting back to you last night. Went to bed early for an early morning start and ended up getting out late anyway. Had some problems with my travel trailer. I ended up going back to the Chimney's Picnic area and doing the trail there this afternoon. I'm going over to Greenbrier tomorrow and do some of the Porter's Creek Trail. May see you in the park. My cell number is 919-889-8802.
