Gone fishing
Taken today at a Large Lake not far from where i live, This heron landed on a fallen tree and started looking in the water-a few minutes later it flew gently into the water and grabbed a pike, I thought it too big for the bird but after 5 minutes it put it back into the water and speared it straigth through the neck and body and then picked it up and swallowed it-amazing

This is an unbelievable shot Dave!!
I wonder how this huge pike fits into the heron.
Have you got any more shots, like swallowing the fish?

Greetings :wavey:

Esox lucius - the predator becomes the prey - they build herons tough over your way Dave

Absolute stunner of a capture :toast: :toast:

If you'd shot that sequence on DVCProHD or better I reckon OSF would have no hesitation in taking it

I have an image for every second of the capture  from catching it to 'the swallow' so have plenty to show-a marsh harrier landed about an hour before and dragged out a dead pike in almost the same spot so have some of that as well-a great day
