Or a monster crop for you bigger in the frame lovers

Much better - and the last is awesome matey
It just depends what you are going for Graeme - if you want a stand-alone image for a website or print then the latter is great; if you are shooting stock then space for text might be a good idea and the first version would be more usable (though might need flipping as it could be seen as facing the wrong way).
Simple - shoot both - buy a Sigmonster

Hi Graeme,
Awesome set of shots! The latter is perhaps my favourite to look at and it's not too tight in the frame! I don't like cloning, and never advocate it, but I am not a fan of rings either!
What ever processing issues you've been having they now look to be well and truely resolved.
Image looks great with very rich, sooty blacks, but with lots of detail too.
A nice trio of images, with them all working very well.
The second and third are my favourites.

I like them all, but the final one is my favourite as a portrait. Blacks looks good to me.

thanks for looking
1d2, 500/4 +1.4x, ISO 200, F11, 1/640th, resting on rock, incredible field craft
( Apart from the ring ! I hate rings- the bird doesn't seem wild anymore.)
Good one.

Detail and sharpness bang-on too
I think I might have made the bird a bit bigger in the frame and not had quite so much space at the top.
I know rings don't bother a lot of folk but like John they bother me intensely (must be an old geezer thing eh John!).
Cracking shot and well done for getting this close Tonto

Andy, tried to keep it full frame but it does suit a crop better, you're right!
