I hiked up the Moab Rim and into the Behind the Rocks area today. I also rode through Castle Valley and Fisher Valley/Onion Creek. In all my travels I spotted precisely one bunch of Indian paintbrush. Granted, it was a very healthy sample but it was a loner. I'm heading out tomorrow for some more hiking and will post an update to this thread upon my return.

Hopefully the flowers will be in full swing in 2.5 weeks.

Thanks for the update - please keep us posted. I might be out there next weekend. Hopefully a couple paintbrushes will pop out by then!

More updates: took a drive down Kane Creek and did some hiking in a wet canyon. Some cactus flowers blooming (pink and red), a few clumps of paintbrush and some purple stuff I've never seen before. No mules ear, prickly pear or lupine yet. Give it another week and I think things will start to look really good.

Bret, thanks for the update. I might be in southeast Utah this weekend.

For any of you considering a trip to Moab this weekend, my advice is to stay far, far away. The annual car show is Fri. - Sun. and it is a nightmare in town. If you're planning to camp outside of town and won't need to come into Moab for any reason you should be fine. The spouses and children who come with the car show participants usually end up in the parks in the middle of the day.
