... In the Grass
I was shooting wildflowers along the Towpath Trail in the CVNP (trout lilies and bloodroots--more on those later) when I heard a rustling in the grass. This little guy came through the underbrush and stopped long enough for me to get one shot. I think it's a variety of garter snake, but I'm not sure. You can see part of his body in the UR.

Not a great image technically, but I really like his expression.

D70, Sigma 180 Macro, 1/160 sec @ f/5, tripod, cropped quite a bit.

Looks like he was happy Spring is here as well. Nice shot under the circumstances.

Great capture, Chuck. The snake-eye level is great. And I do like how you can see the rest of the body.

Meetings like this are the kind of thing that make my day. The snake's expression says a lot. Wonderful shot. :toast:
Happy Earth Day.

Yeah, CVNP is probably the best place in Ohio I've run across for seeing and shooting snakes. I'll run across a half a dozen of them every day in the summer when I am up there.

I like the expression on the snake as well. It has that "What is that and how did it get there?" look to it.
