Western Marsh Harrier-Circus aeruginosus
Here's another from my recent trip to Texel together with Edwin Kats and Danny Green. We have had several species of Harriers in front of our lenses but this encounter with a Western Marsh Harrier i remembered well due to it's intense stare in my direction.

Groet,

Jeroen Stel

Hi Jeroen,

I love seeing your images using the 600mm + 2.0x TC! (I'm experimenting with this myself at the moment!). It's really amazing how you managed to obtain such a sharp image with a shutter speed of 1/400th and an aperture of f/13. (You really do have to stop-down on the f-stop to obtain critical sharpness!).

Simply an awesome capture of a lovely bird! (One of my favourites!)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments!
To Paul: I too am very pleased with the results of the 2x converter allthough i must say that in this case i had a lot of luck... There was a lot of wind wich made the Harrier fly by really slow and therefor i was able to get a flight shot at 1/400 sec wich normally would not have succeeded under 1/750 sec. I have to stop down to F11 or higher to get enough sharpness and detail but being able to shoot at 800 ISO with the Mark3 makes this possible as i think other camera's might have more trouble getting decent results due to slower shutterspeeds.

greetings,

Jeroen Stel

Great shot Jeroen. I've never tried flight shots with the 2x on my 500mm, but this has given me reason to give it a go!

Nice - this is the quality I strive for with the same lens combination - nowhere near it yet. That stare is awesome.
