Staffordshire Water Vole
They don't just exist in Derbyshire

Spent a very enjoyable day yesterday helping Staffordshire Mammal Group with a Water Vole survey. Because the primary goal was surveying, any photographic opportunities were really just grab shots so this one is for illustration rather than critique (I've not done anything with the PP apart from crop/resize/sharpen). This was taken in Cheadle, which has the largest known WV population in the county.

And in the afternoon we discovered a previously unknown WV site :jump:

E-510, 50-200mm zoom + 1.4x TC, ISO 400, 1/60th @ f4.9, hand held (IS on), cropped about 20%

There is a brook at the bottom of our Close. Only brown rats AFAIAA. What sought of vegetation etc, do they like? Nice image.
