I'm heading to Woodland to visit my folks and take my dad out for a drive this weekend, so I thought I'd get there early and shoot sunrise at the bulb farm before I head over to pick up Dad.

Anyone interested?

I think I might join you, Curtis - I live in Salmon Creek now, so it would be a short jaunt up there. Sunrise and early morning would work perfect for me before we hit the gym on Saturday AM. Let me know where we could meet - maybe at the Ridgefield exit or at Woodland somewhere? Thanks..

Crap, what was I thinking? There is no clear view of the Eastern sky from the fields. they are well-suited for sunset, but not sunrise. My brain must have still been foggy from too much time in the truck over the weekend.

Ned, how would you like to meet for sunset Saturday? My wife and her daughter will be at the ballet so I have a free evening. I'll spend the day with Dad, and then we'll meet you for sunset... I would suggest we meet in The Oak Tree parking lot. It's right next to the Chevron station across from the exit.

I would be up for a sunrise meet as well, but Woodland doesn't have a lot to offer... Maybe we could do Cape Horn...

I can let you know how my schedule would work, Curtis - that might be a go. I wasn't too worried about the sunrise though - my plan was to get in close to work the flowers that way when the light was low and the breezes hopefully non-existent... let me see if that will work. If I do go there in the morning too, is it open then?

it's open 24/7. no charge, no release forms. And we're allowed to walk out into the rows.

If you want to meet in Woodland for sunrise, let's do that. It'll be easier for me as well because I can just hop over the hill and come down through Longview.

Sounds good, Curtis - will see you there!

Great! Let's call it 5:30 a.m. Saturday at The Oak Tree. That'll put us at the fields about 5:45. I expect the sun will hit the fields no earlier than 7:00, and probably closer to 8:00.

For those who want to drive straight out to the fields, here are the directions:

I5 to exit 21.
Turn west on to Lewis River Rd. (if you're coming in from the North, you'll need to travel approx. a mile on the frontage road to get to the stop light at Goerig).
LRR becomes Goerig St
Follow Goerig through town to 5th St. (if you come to the RR tracks, you went a couple blocks too far.)
Turn left (south) onto 5th
5th st becomes South Pekin Rd (street signs might say Pekin Ferry)
Follow Pekin to the fields. They are at the end of the road, right next to the dike.
