GoG Flowering Plum
Well, after arriving at the Garden of the Gods too late to catch the setting moon, let alone in position with the Kissing Camels, I met up with Mel for a short shoot. Mel pointed out the flowering plums, which I had completely missed, right by the main lot.

I think this is my favorite of the morning. I wish I'd gotten more close-ups of the blooms.

Let me know if this composition and lighting works for you and any thoughts for improvement.

Canon 20D, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 @ 22mm, f/20@1/8s, processed through DxO and LR.

I like it Kalin. Its like two arcs sweeping into each other on a blue field.

IMO, the tree just serves to obscure those nicely lit monoliths in the background. There simply aren't enough flowers on it (or they aren't mature enough) to warrant the inclusion/intrusion.

Thanks John. I guess you wouldn't like the shots I took through the tree  (neither did I). I do appreciate the the input!

I was hesitant to post my thoughts because it seems that only 'glowing' remarks are posted here.
Myself, I would rather hear all thoughts, positive or otherwise, in order to truly assess what works and what doesn't with my own images.
I'm glad that you took my words in the spirit in which they were intended, Kalin

Youll never get glowing remaks from me, im too much of a cynic. I like the color, Kalin, and the idea, but agree that some seperation would have been better.

I've worked this tree into the frame for years, and yet I still cannot find the composition I would like. Both subjects are wonderful and your exposures on both are spot on. I would not say that you did anything wrong, I believe that sometimes no matter what is done, some compositions just dont work. Now stepping to the right 10' and getting very low, a blooming yucca is perfect.
