Here is a quick five-minute snapshot at 4-something this morning from our back deck - a sea of clouds from yesterday's rains formed in the Buffalo River canyon below and were all lit up by moonlight...

Nice, it looks like a river of clouds!

Very sweet.

Tough to beat that view.

Was the light on the horizon from a city or sunrise? 4-something is still pretty dark.

No, it is just naturally light around the horizon, especially with that bright moon, and also the horizon is actually beginning to light up a bit when it gets close to sunrise...

I agree, it looks like a river of clouds. It looks like the lost sleep was worth it :).

Lost sleep? I am normally up by then anyway and today I had a workshop group to meet down in Boxley Valley at 6am so I had my camera gear all ready to go. I'm an early-morning owl, which is what you have to be if you want to be somewhere out in the wilderness when the neat stuff happens before sunrise (or in this case I had just stepped out of the hot tub so had to dry off first...).

Tim, beautiful scene ... a lake of clouds filling the valleys. But what I really like is the light on Pam's meadow, very nice!

Actually Pam does not have a meadow (the one below the cabin is Mom's Meadow - her ashes are spread there and her wildflowers bloom and cover it each summer). But Pam does have a "grotto" named after her - in fact she has a date with a photographer from National Geographic there early one morning soon to take a photo for the OHT article - Pam and her grotto may grace the pages of Nat'l Geo this fall! And it took another photographer to do it...
