These two GCGs were busy nest building with a break for the odd dance.I waited for an hour for them to dance, their feet must have been going like the clappers  Taken at Ogston from the public hide, when I went back the next day the nest had been trashed by coots.

NIkon D200 Sigma 80-400mm OS 400MM @ F8 1/250sec ISO 180 40% crop USM/levels in Elements 6.

As usual any comments good or bad most welcome

I do so wish I could get this action in front of me Ian - and it's a 'super' weed dance here as their feet look to be on the surface as opposed to treading water just underneath - mind you with feet that size I'm certain they could dance two feet above the water if they really tried

Nice action capture :toast:

Great shot - deep envy !! I tried for some while to get the ones I watch dancing like this, but they always went to the one area of the lake with no access before performing.

Hi Ian,

Great action shot. Being super critical, the whites on both breasts look a little hot in patches.

Nicely captured in open water at the critical time-maybe a lower POV would improve an already very good image

Very nice indeed. I saw this behaviour for the first time last weekend and I now have an ambition to get closer to the action. Hope you don't mind me adding this small, very poor quality large crop, showing the incredible headgear they have.

Thanks for all your replys :toast:

Rob yes the whites are blown but there was no way with the sun that I was ever going to get it any better.

Dave: I was in a hide with them right outside, someone else tried to get closer to them from outside the hide and scared them off, I was just glad they came back and danced for me .

Ian: I have some pictures of them with them displaying but they dont do it when dancing.

I have not seen them doing it again and as the nest has been wrecked they have moved much further away :frown:

Cracking shot. Get yourself a floating hide and redo that shot eye level with the birds....
