Canon 20D
Sigma 10 - 20 @ 10mm
f10, 1/60

This is a bit of a record shot, thought I am trying to think of ways to improve the shot. The camera is tethered to my laptop which results in a delay in the shutter release making timing tricky. The flash is off camera and needs more experimentation with placement.

Oh yeah and the food could do with hiding!!

If anyone has idea on how to get better results I'd be grateful.

The cat looks like it is fed up with you giving its food to the badger. You can't say you have trouble finding them can you? Looking forward to some more.

You're very lucky to have a Badger visiting your house. I have to sit for hours in a cold, damp wood to see these wonderful creatures.

The delay can be overcome with a radio remote!

Hi Gavin,

Very nice! I agree use a Radio Remote. Also try placing the food in a small dug out hole so it is out of the line of sight – just! A little further from the house would be beneficial – to help illuminate try using some red bulbs!

The cat makes the image-very funny-Shame the badger isnt all in the frame but probably really doesnt need to be in this instance-given time and effort you should be able to sit outside with the badgers although maybe with a longer lens

Thanks for the feedback so far. I've got a few taken from further back where all the badger is in frame but the cat wasn't in those.

I should be able to take my time and get a better photo, he is pretty tolerant of it all now. You can even put your head up to the window, sometimes he looks at you other times not, but always gives the food most attention.

Can anyone recommend a radio remote? I don't want to buy a Canon wireless one because of the cost.

Nice shot, and quite amusing.
I bought one of the cheap remote controls from ebay. Mine is a `YongNuo`, and works well with my 40D and 20D.

Hello Gavin,
re the lighting for this type of shot. Try placing one head up higher to the right of camera pointing down a little more. That should place the shadow more underneath the badger. If you can get another flash then put that above and directly behind the badger to give it some backlighting and counteract shadows thrown by first flash. (take a look at some badger shots I placed on forum earlier under title 'Betty'I) f you continue feeding every night it wont take long before the badger will accept you and then you should be able to do without the remote. On the food front if all else fails use a few peanuts, at least they are easy to clone out.
Good luck with project.
