The federal government wants you to pay your taxes, but it does not want to protect the work that provides the income that becomes the basis for those tax dollars.

Property rights of all types are under constant assault. Whether it is your real property, or your intellectual property, the Lockesian form of property rights (a man's home is his castle . . . so long as he doesn't harm his neighbor), upon which the United States Constitution forms its property rights basis, is being confronted and replaced by the Rousseauian form of property rights. Rousseau is regarded as the father of modern socialism. In his view, which is becoming more predominant these days, property rights are inherent in the state, and the state allows you to use portions of its right. This applies whether you are talking about real property (real estate) or intellectual property (patents and copyrights, etc.)

In this legislation, we are being told that we cannot own our own created work unless we pay the state's fee for formally registering that work. Don't do that, and essentially whatever you used your camera to create, regardless of how unique or difficult to create, is pretty much owned by whoever wants to use it. You can easily end up with something you will have a hard time selling to anyone, once someone else has used it to help support his or her mortgage.

The Congress is going to decide whether or not it will take even more of our livelihood from us and give it to any bloodsucking leech who wants to scam a buck without having to lift a finger to earn it. Then, those folks who have moved themselves to the Other Washington will come back out to the hinterlands and beg us to send them back for another round after the First Tuesday in November.

. . . And, often as not, we'll do so . . .

Well said Norman. It's just more evidence that the idiots in Washington are there for their own self interest with little regard for the people they are pledged to serve.
