just got back from flambrough a stunning bit of coastline with thousands of twitchers, bumped into Andy Shepard another photographer on the uknp at bempton cliffs, top bloke and another spurs supporter. Anyway i left at 3.00 am to get there for sunrise and captured this image soon after the sun appeared.

Good to meet you too Lewis , it's always nice to put a face to a name , hope you captured some good Gannet shots.
Nice image of Thornwick Bay , a place i've never visited , as soon as I buy a landscape lense i'll be there.
See you soon ( C'mon the Spurs )
Best regards

Good image . Would be nice to get a bit of light onto the dark green cliff shelves at the top of the shot I reckon'

Hi Lewis,
Vey nice landscape image!

The location looks like it has lots of potential but this one doesn't work for me I'm afraid due to the flat and uninteresting lighting. A nice stormy day or a bit of warm sunshine would transform the scene IMHO.
Could also do with a little more depth of field to keep the distant cliffs in reasonibly sharp focus.

Could do with more sharpening for the web rather than more DOF I think. And perhaps worth playing with saturation and curves to give the image more pop. At the same time it would be good to get more detail into the dark areas on the hills.
I think compositionally what I don't like is the loss of the curve of the beach where the water touches the LHS. Ideally my eye would see the rocks in the foreground then connect them through a continuous curve of beach to the rock bridge in the middle of picture which as the bright point draws the eye. I'd prefer that point to be more over on the RHS losing some of the not very interesting sky in the process. But I always hate it when people make suggestions like this about my photos as I'm sure you'd have got wetter moving more to the right and you probably were trying to avoid including a red and white bollard on the beach or some other eyesore !
