My version of PS Elements 3 (Mac) has stopped opening a few files with the comment; "Couldn't complete request because an unknown or invalid Jpeg marker type is found" However they still open fine in PS7.
I strongly suspect that it has something to do with Aperture2 that I have just installed.
Any suggestions (other than to get rid of Elements...........I still like to use it for some tasks!).
Thanks

The only thing I can think of, Eddie is to open them in PS7 and re-save them to a different name. You lose a tiny bit of quality doing this to JPGs, but it might restore full function. That's a strange one, because I'd think the drive may have corrupted the file except that PS7 opens it. You might want to scan the disk anyway.
Strange problem...I doubt this is the solution, but you may want to double check the file extensions (.jpg, .jpeg, etc...). Some programs can use a strict guideline when it comes to the extension, for example if you rename a jpg file example.jpg to example.tif, some may try to open it as a tiff...whereas other programs will use the internal file markers instead and open the example.tif as a jpg, whereas others may require both internal and file extension to match.
I had a similiar problem on my Mac with one of the versions of Elements. I have PS 8 also. The problem did not coincide with any application I have installed. I have not used Elements in a LONG time; my son and daughter were using it because I did not want them to mess up my PS settings. All of a sudden, they could not open anything with Elements. I even reinstalled it and it made no difference. Sometimes I will click on an old file and it tries opening Elements since that is what the file was saved with last. It gives that error message. I finally taught my son and daughter how to use PS and we never deal with Elements anymore. I know this does not help other than it MAY have nothing to do with your using Aperture.
BTW, seems like that is a very old version of Elements. It could be that you have upgraded some component of the OS-X operating system that has a conflict with the older Elements. Same thing could be my problem.

The JPEG format does not support 16-bit, transparency or layers.
Also, try this trick:
drag them over the Safari logo in Dock-they should open
Control+COPY IMAGE
In Photoshop:
command+N
Command+V
Flatten
Save As JPEG
OK
