Hello I wanted to make the gathering but I had to take care of some business that weekend. I was able to get to mount magazine one evening last week. It is a blend. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I still get wowed by sunsets that have the dynamic range to show ground detail, and this is about what you could see if you were there in person. The ground detail here is pretty spectacular, too, and would be sorely missed if photographed in the usual way.

great blend, the foreground detail is very nice; to me, the sun is almost too bright, but the rays coming from it are nice

Sorry you couldn't make it Gale...maybe this fall.

This looks pretty good to me, although I'm seeing a bit of a halo where you blended the sky in along the left, behind the tree branches. The rest looks very nice.

Actually Bill their was someone burning some brush or trash down in the valley. When I drove through it all I thought about turning around. Anyway that is smoke. I darkened it some below the sun to bring out the rays. No way to do that behind the branches. I think it is kind of a compromise on which way to go.

Maybe the forest service - Tim E. had reported in his Journal that the Mt. Magazine Ranger District was burning 70 acres last Monday around the Spring Lake Recreation Area. Maybe they lit another one up?

Yeap that's it, way to much smoke for anything else. my meta data says 4-20

Beautiful shot Gale. I like the dynamic range from front to back. The details really stand out. Maybe you can make the fall gathering.

Very cool. The smoke/fog really helped with this image.

Neat shot, Gale. I like how you positioned the tree in the foreground, which adds a lot. This looks like that point just north of the Cameron Bluff overlook. Is it?

Great sunset with detail Gale.

I think this is fantastic Gale! Dramatic sky with sunbeams lighting the distant mountainsides, wonderful warm light on the foreground outcrop and you've even captured the tenacity of life clinging to solid rock in a hostile environment. Very well done! :toast:
