One from the Dunes
Finally processed a few photos from my trip to the Sand Dunes weekend before last. It was very windy so I didn't take too many shots. Climbed up to the higher dunes for sunset. On the way up I passed a couple of guys who were going to camp up there over night but were coming down because they couldn't keep their tent from flying around. It was also pretty overcast most the day but the clouds broke a little around sunset.

Here's a couple more: http://www.bobdentphotography.com/gallery.php?gallery=Dunes0408

I really like your "Shifting Sands" sunset and the "Curving Dune".
The blowing sand certainly adds interest and it would be hard to keep the camera in the bag...but, I hope you don't have that grinding sand sound as you focus your 24-105 !

Nice sunset, Bob! I like the soft feel from the blowing sand. I can imagine sand in everything after a trek in that.

This one is nice but I really like "Curving Dune".

Those are some really nice images, Bob. It sounds like you were up there the same time as me, I wonder if we were in the same area. I got sandblasted myself, and unfortunately my camera seems to have suffered some damge from a stray grain of sand on the filter in front of the sensor. :frown:

While the Sand Curve is the more classic beauty, I like your first image presented here for the complexity it presents. The Grasses and spaces in between present great texture shifts that carry me through the scene to the mountains beyond. The clouds leading and pushing down also accomplish the same.

Very nice series Bob. You made good use of the windy conditions.

I really like this one you posted here... Very nice and unique composition. I also like the sunset one shooting into the sun.

I too had to chase a tent around once... but worse was one time when I had to chase my ridgerest sleeping pad uphill. Funny thing is that when I was about 2/3 up the steep side of a big dune, the wind stopped and ridgerest rolled back down to me! The last few times I've gone I haven't even brought a tent...

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I'm glad that you guys like a couple of the other ones too.

Jack, that's too funny about your sleeping pad. At least you didn't lose it.

Nice work Bob! You have some really nice classic shots there including Curving Dune. But, I like the posted image simply because it is different!

Curving Dune is my fav too, but I do also really like your composition of the one posted here!. The wind really added something to the images with the blowing sand, great series!.

Great shots Bob!!! I like the posted image as well because it is diffferent than the normal fare. Don't get me wrong though - I still love the classic curving dune shots as well!

That is a great sunset shot too!

Great Bob!! I really like the composition and light here. I was there last week also. It was so windy just like you said and I had to kind of walk around the dunes.... I love your perspective....looking at the curving dune shot you got further than I did..... regards, Rajeev. :toast:
