As I noted in response to Mike D.'s thread, I spent the weekend playing in the eastern gorge and Columbia Hills. There are a lot of flowers growing on the walls and cuts along Highway 14, and here's a shot of some poppies taken near the Catherine Creek area.

oh yeah, this is excellent. I got no nits here. The poppies against the basalt wall makes a sweet image. I also like the full DOF here.
Very nice photo John, the composition, color and detail all compliment one another..... love the rock!
Just imagine how much nicer this one could have been, using canon equipment!
John, Great DOP and Sharpning. Looks like an overcast day in the gorge. Nice job.

Very nice image...tack sharp........I would crop just a hair or 2 off the top.......and maybe add just a hint of brightness to this....

I ditto what Darren says. Very nice contrast between flower and rocks.

Normally I'm not a big fan of poppies because the images usually show hundreds in a field but this one is a GREAT image. Beautiful comp, great color..what else can I say!

Really nice, and a small crop would focus the shot even more. I LIKE - I gotta head out there soon !!

Nice, John - I like the off-center comp, too. Good environmental context with the basalt!

Thanks all!
Here's a second take, slightly opened up and cropped as suggested. I'm leery of too much, the crop because I like the arch in the rock mimicking the arch of the plant and the brightness to avoid blowing out the detail in the poppies.
Oh, and Craig... (just because with your long lense you could have taken this photograph from Oregon ).
