In usual place (http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eos1dm3/firmware.html)

Another tweak to the AF systems (including low contrast improvements) plus some CF changes

Cheers Barrie :toast:  :toast: , I certainly hope this update makes a difference to my piece of junk , at the minute I'd get better results if I threw the camera at a low contrast subject , Jackdaw / Crow against a dark sky , FORGET IT

Thanks for the post

Best regards

If it is really that bad I would send it back as not fit for purpose - have you benchmarked it against another one.

Hi Tom,

I've not benchmarked it against another and if i'm honest i've lost all patience with it , even on big contrasty birds like Gannets it struggles to lock on most of the time , whether it be "ring of fire" or centre point with assists it really is very poor.

Maybe your right and it needs returning to Canon , excuse my ignorance for a second but I thought all "Blue spots" were supposed to be just about o.k. if you know what I mean.

Even though i've had it a couple of months can I quote "not fit for purpose" because I bought the camera mainly for flight shots and it isn't up to the task ???

Regards

Andy,

I would write or phone canon and state your concerns and ask them to give it the once over - if when it comes back and it still does not work as expected I would then bench mark it against another to see if it is just your unit and if so take up a replacement with your dealer.

PS given how they have numbered thsi release I would expect it to be a serious change to the functional that already exists. i.e. it is not called 1.1.4 but 1.2.3.

I have updated my 1DS3 as its firmware has an upgrade as well

whilst I haven't found any problems with my 1ds3 (but I haven't severly tested it other than the kites at gigrin where IMHO it preformed as well as, if not surpassed, my 1ds2) I would ask anybody considering this camera to take note of the last paragraph in Rob Galbraiths latest update to the 1d3 problem here
