This was an image I captured last month on my whirlwind tour of Utah, this tree just struck me because it was clear that it hadn't been long since life had left it completely. I like the way the dead tree and the cloudy skies dominate the left of the frame and the living tree and blue skies are on the right. I've gotten attached to it and I'm wondering if work for anyone else. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm.... looks a little undersaturated on the web -- boosted the color a bit.

There is tension between these two trees in the way the dead tree is reaching for towards the live one and in the live tree retreating from the frame. It all tells a story.
I think I'd prefer saturation somewhere between the two levels, but that's not a big deal.
I agree with Mel about the saturation, also I would like to see all of the live tree in the frame since all of the dead tree is there, making for a better comparison (for me anyway). Otherwise, I like the photo a lot especially the dead tree as it has classic lines.
My thoughts exactly Don. Although the dead tree is certainly the center of attention, I would have zoomed or foot zoomed back to get the whole comp in the frame. I agree with Mel re the tension/contrast between death and life. None-the-less I like this shot Paul!

Paul,
It would be a good idea to show or connect the two trees in one picture. In your case I don’t think that when you took the picture that was your objective. Just as Don said, the live tree should be in the frame for that. Crop the picture and just focus on the dead tree.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the one thing I didn't like was the fact that the living tree was cut off. Unfortuantely, I didn't have much working room as there was a 10 foot drop off right behind me. I should have zoomed out a touch, but I also don't remember if I was trying to not include something on the right. I do have an image of just the dead tree which I'll try and post tomorrow for comparison. Thanks again....
