Hello. I met some of you while you were at Lost Valley. I'm the old geezer who couldn't quite keep up. This is a wonderful site. Looks like I can learn a lot here. Most of my pictures don't measure up to the standard you have set, but I might have a few decent ones. I'm surprised no one has posted a picture of the Columbine. My picture is too poor to post , but it was a beautiful flower growing out of the rock at about 7 feet high.

Canon 40D 10-22 @ 10mm

Hey Mike, I'm the one who hiked to the top of the falls with you. Glad you found our site. My shots of the Columbine also are blown out so bad they are unusable. The main thing I learned on our weekend outing was that the sun is not the friend of outdoor photographers. I enjoyed talking with you and I think you will find this a very friendly and helpful site. Nice capture of a cascade. Might want to lighten the upper center just a bit to bring out the detail.

Welcome aboard :wavey:

Hi Mike. It was nice running into you at Lost valley. I am glad you introduced yourself and have now found your way to NPN. This is an interesting scene that I have never discovered there in the valley.
I hope your camera club has a fun outing and the water stays running for you.

Hi Mike, It was nice meeting you. It's always a pleasure meeting other with the same passion for photography. I really like your image of the cascades, the composition is wonderful.
I took the liberty of checking out your website, you have some very nice images Mike. We all would love for you to share more of your work here.
I even see you have some of the columbine from Lost Valley you mentioned, very nice indeed.
I have a few images of the columbine as well, I will see if I can get one processed and posted.
Again, nice meeting you.
Thanks for sharing.
Take Care.

Hi Mike! Welcome to CSNP. I never made it up to this area on Saturday but I recall seeing you at the trailhead. I'm afraid I got engrossed with wildflowers along the trail and never made it too far. We would be glad to add you to our CSNP membership, just put your info on the thread at the top of the forum and I'll update our members page soon.

Nice shot under some difficult shooting conditions on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing more!

Welcome aboard Mike, I was the one in the engineers cap. I like both your websites, the cascade you posted here looks much better in the larger size on your website. Your columbine photos are great also. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. This looks like a great place. I'm still intimidated by many of the posted shots, but I'll get over it. And I've never improved any of my endeavors by hanging around people who are inferior.

If you took the upper path back to the falls, you went across a little creek (more like a rivulet). I followed it to the south bluff line and found the cascade.

If it weren't 180 miles, I would go back this weekend to give the Columbine another try.

Welcome to the forum, Mike. You've got some nice stuff on your web sites. I look forward to your posts. When I saw your Lost Valley Cascade photo (pretty scene!) one of my first thoughts was that I sure like wide-angle shots. "I wonder what lens he used" I thought. I checked your shot specs and was surprised to see the 10-22 lens. I didn't know Canon made that one! I'm on my third Canon DSLR ( a 40D like yours) and I've always lived with the 1.6 crop factor. It sure would be nice to go wider than my 16-35. What do you think of your 10-22?

"What do you think of your 10-22?"

It's my new favorite lens. I've only had it a couple of months but it's great. It's so easy to get everything in focus. It's definately not for background blur shots. The hyperfocal distance at 10mm and f8 is 2.19 ft. It sure makes you get close, though.

Welcome, Mike - sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you last week. I didn't make it very far up the valley, having found a Jack-in-the-Pulpit to keep me busy.

This is a great first post. The location is one I've shot several times because of the beautiful green moss. Keep up the good work - look forward to seeing more.
