I'll be in the Portland, Orgeon area for a conference the week of May 12 and plan to spend the 10-12 seeking photographs in the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood areas. I'm planning to take the scenic drives and photograph some waterfalls. Any advice or suggestions for good nature photography this time of year (wildflowers) would be appreciated as would suggestions for inexpensive places to stay. Thanks.
Oregon side for waterfalls. Specifically the Historic Scenic Hwy. If you have time for hiking, Take the Eagle Creek trail for sure. there are many others that you'll want to try as well, but if I only had time for one hike, that's the trail I'd pick. This is what I like to call Waterfall Row, and it has enough waterfalls and trails to keep you busy for a month!
The Mt Hood area has Trillium Lake, Sahalie Falls, Lost Lake, and many others, but I'm not as well acquainted with those areas as some of the other PNWNP members.
Give me a holler when you get into town. I might be able to meet up with you... It depends on what the wife has planned... If you're interested, send me an email and I'll send you my cell number.
oh yeah, and for wildflowers in May, head east past hood river to Rowena Crest, and Tom McCall Wildflower Preserve for Balsam Root, and hopefully this year the Lupine will be blooming at the same time. Everything's a little late this year.
Take I-84 from Portland east to Mosier, then take Hwy 30 to the preserve. you can't miss it.
