I'm still having fun with my MPE-65 macro lens, although I'll no doubt be dusting off my Sigma 150 any day now. This one was taken in my garden at around 1.5x magnification.
f13, 1/160, ISO 100, diffused Speedlight on off-camera bracket, handheld.
The MPE-65 looks like a fun lens to use, it's a shame there is no Nikon equivalent. This is a good shot, although i feel it may have benefited from an even more diffuse light source to reduce the reflections.
I find it practically impossible to reduce reflections any more than this on a shiny ladybird. This flash is about as diffused as it could possibly be. Ideally I'd do without the flash, but then I couldn't use f13 and ISO 100 and I wouldn't have captured this little chap as he barely stopped moving.
I understand, what would ideally improve a photo and what is actually possible in the real world are often two completely different things! I find it hard enough working at a 1:1 magnification, so I'm sure the MPE-65 opens up a whole new world of technical difficulties
