Lost Valley Salvation (Wild Geranium)
Well if these wildflowers weren't my salvation late Saturday morning then they were only overshadowed by the fact that I shot them about 5 minutes after finding my lost car keys on the forest floor!

I was sweating bullets thinking I was going to be stuck in Lost Valley forever! Wait a minute ... that doesn't sound half bad after all! Thanks for looking!

Excellent, Wayne, sounds like you had a great day in Lost Valley. Glad you found the car keys.

Absolutely beautiful, Wayne! Great delicate detail and wonderful background. Hey - why were you shooting with the 10D?

That's really a nice shot. Great lighting and composition.

Thanks for the comments guys. Tim, I have really liked using the 100-400L on the 10D for flora images and the busier the background the more reason to use the 10D.

I'm effectively shooting at 640 mm (at 400) , using the better part of the glass and allowing myself to stop down for better dof on my subject while still blurring the bg. I know that I'm potentially leaving some quality on the table because of the differences in the sensors on the 5D vs 10D but no larger than I print flora I haven't worried about it. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Glad you got some shooting time in during your wedding trip for Mary's mom. Now if we can only get Mary hitched to someone of high caliber! Best of luck to you during the wedding planning!

Very nice shot with your "macro" lens. I left mine in the car. But it looks like you were getting as much or more dof at f8 as I was with my new 100mm macro. Hmmmmm. I'll have to try it.

Very nice detail and it looks like the rear flower is in the sun and didn't get blown.

Nice job Wayne. Glad to see the 10D getting some attention.
And there are worse things than being stuck in Lost Valley forever. Just blame it on Merle.

Very nice Wayne. You got me thinking I should try using my longer lens (70-300) for some shots like this. I really like how the back flower is in slightly more light than the front one, it gives it a really nice look, and you got the background right on.
I think next time I'm in Lost Valley I will just throw my truck keys away! As long as some one comes back and feeds me once in awhile. (hope the wife doesn't read this!)
Really nice job Wayne.

Great work, Wayne. Especially with your point and shoot camera. Very well controlled DOF and beautiful soft colors.

Wow, one of the nicest wild geranium shots I've seen , Wayne. The light is just perfect, and the background is beautiful. Outstanding job on this one!

Exquisite. Beautiful background, and I love how you've got one bloom in light and one in shadow.

Well so much for me posting the shot I took about 10 feet away from you, it pales in comparison. Good job, Wayne. :jump:
I've got the 100-400 and I've found it's great for butterfly shots, especially when you put an extension tube behind it.
