GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) - A popular east-west road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will close for a week while crews stabilize a rock face.
The National Park Service said Friday work will begin along Little River Road on Monday, reducing it to one lane and an 8-mile section of the road will be closed May 12-19.
The closure will be between the Townsend Wye and Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area while workers use rock dowels and polyurethane resin to reduce continuing erosion at Indian Head Rock.
The detour around the work will be U.S. 321 through Wear Valley, just north of the park.
