Baited - mealworms in hollow stump.
Biggest problem - keeping Robins off.

very nice, though the comp does seem a little unbalanced to my eye

is this recent?

Hi Jack
No - re processed from last year. This is the male which was taken by a Sparrow Hawk in the garden so never made it back again. Both broods failed too.
No where near as many around this year.

This is very nice mr. John:) Lovely frame and one beautiful bird. I think a square crop would even be better but that's personal.

Thanks Edwin. In tried all sorts of crops and it wasn't that easy. The square put the bird too far to the right, and the long pan chopped too much blossom off. Maybe I'll tryagain !

Beautiful bird and blossom.
Looks like you'll have to find another though.

For me this works great. I know it's hard to find the wright comp sometimes. It's also a personal thing. But this certainly works for me. Thanks,

Works for me as well-carcking bird and the blossom tops it off

excellent John, I'd go for the 2nd one but like the pose, colours and sharpness of both of them.

Superb shot John. Personally I prefer the first one but that is just a personal preference and I would be happy to call either one my own.

Superb - I vote for the second, but it's a close call.

Beautiful photograph.

From a commercial point of view (if this is of interest to anyone), never crop to square. If a picture editor wants a square image, THEY will crop it, if you provide them with a square image, they can't do anything with it if they want some extra space.

The original is perfect for dropping some text in the 'dead' space so for me, it works much 'better' than does the second crop

As I say, it's a beautiful photo and I do hope the Sparrowhawk appreciated its lunch!

Gorgeous, picture postcard shot but real. What a pretty bird too, never seen one.

Excellent image, I too am happier with the first although the second is probably better for web presentation.
