Balsamroot and Lupine buds
Nikon D2x
28-70mm @ 70mm
f-3.5 @ 1/500 sec

Friday till about 2 in the afternoon was an awesome time for photographing the flowers up at Rowena. The sky was a nice pure white and there was little to no wind.
Ozzy and I had a great time wandering around for a few hours. I met up with David Cobb for a little while and I gave location advice to Curtis and Kevin McNeal via cell phone from the field.
Anyway, as I wrote earlier, there aren't the fields and fields of flowers like we've seen in the past but there are good clumps around. I found this Balsamroot flower blooming amid a budding Lupine plant.

Nice shot Mark, at least Ozzy didn't sit on these before you photographed them! I headed out to the Dalles Mt Ranch today and there isn't much happening. Most of the Balsamroot is in remission and the lupine is fairly stunted. On a scale of 1-10, with the past three years being 8s, I'd give this year a 2 at the Dalles Mt. Ranch. Rowena Point seems to be the best area for these flowers in the gorge this year.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for all the info on Rowena, I will try and make it over there this week. This is sure a beauty, I love the colors and of course your composition is super! :toast:

This is a beauty Mark. I wouldn't have thought I'd enjoy the buds this much, but they really add while letting the balsamroot shine. I do wish the second bud was in focus and that the lrc matched the surrounding lupine leaves, but those are both really minor.

Beautiful, Mark.

Oooh... I'm digging this one. I love the color temp, and the warm balsamroot against the cooler lupine. Nice work Mark.

Likin' it, Mark. Really nice touch to find these with some frost or dew (?) on them.

Beautiful image. The colors go very well together. The detail and focus are great and there is a feeling of frostiness that is probably the fuzz on the young leaves but goes very well with the shot.
