2 Tone Violets
Saturday AM I wandered off along the bluff top @ Sweden Creek and found a small group of these 2 tone violets. I liked this one with the backlighting but processing it is driving me nuts. Getting it as sharp as I remember is not working well. I'm into areas of ACR that I've always avoided before since stuff got too "crunchy" which makes me nervous. Also the refraction and shadows from the drops on the backside of the petals are affecting how the drops on the nearside look. What do you folks think?

I think it looks good for the lighting conditions. Nothing on the flower itself bothers me because I know that is probably how it looked. I would be tempted to clone out some of the highlights in the background though. Especially the bright dot in the lower right hand corner.

This is a birds foot violet by the way. They have a pretty cool coloration to them. Nice find! I was too much in awe of the waterfalls to see most of the flowers.

Hi Bruce, the colors are very nice. It has an overall good look to it. I can sure understand the frustration of getting a shot like this to look like it did to the eye when taken. Hilights and shadows I find difficult to process even in raw. Multiple exposures when taken can help, (I'm sure you already know that). I'm bad about thinking the shot will turn out good with just a single exposure, just to find out when processing it that it doesn't. Have you tried processing it twice in raw and trying to blend the two? May help with the shadows.
Anyway, it's still a nice shot very much worth taking.
Thanks for sharing.

This one's not quite working for me Bruce. This one may have benefited from a diffuser, maybe even some reflected fill light and a better bg. What were your shooting spec's?

The flower itself looks fine to me, Bruce. You might consider darkening the background some, and maybe increasing saturation a touch more.
