First outing with new Nikon 24-70 lens
Broke down and bought one. I must say it lives up to its reputation....a zoom comparable to primes. I don't have the 1.4 aperature...but it does have amazing sharpness. When I apply sharpening, it is almost like I went from 12MP to 16MP and should help with my enlargments. Now to sell that 17-55.

Seems like everyone is hunting for this lens...but as karma would have it, they had one over at Pro Photo Supply.

Went to the Japanese Gardens and really put it though its paces on a familiar subject (chose familiar as I wanted to see the diffrence on finely detailed subjects I know how the old lens reacts to)

Now...for that pesky 14-24 and the D4X (when it comes)

Roman,

Did you ever have a 28-70, 2.8? I have one, I like it, it's really sharp but I'm wondering if the 24-70 is that much better that I should replace it when the D4x comes out?

I own the 28-70. It's tack sharp. I hear the 24-70 is a bit better!

Well, "a bit better" isn't worth the effort to sell my 28-70 and get the 24-70. Or is it?

That will leave me with the quandary of the 12-24 or the 17-35 also.

From what I have read from people who had both, the 24-70 is sharper, but the 28-70 does skin tones better.

I have a 28-70 and it is incredibly sharp, so the 24-70 must be really nice

definitely nice detail. I like your comp here as well.

I absolutely love the versatility of my Canon counterpart in this range, so I am sure you are going to love yours..

Thanks everyone. I have a few trusted contacts that have Zeiss Primes....they tell me the output is rather similar. If they are correct....(and I dont have any reason to doubt them) this should put things in perspective. My hunch it is between the two....but thats pretty insane territory for a zoome lens.

As for the 17-55, my asking price is $1,050 + shipping.

This lens is on my dream list. I heard that it's working best on D3, so to take the full advantage of this lens you need to get the D3 now!

Actually the D300 our resolves the D3....it is sharper and needs the lens more. little more pixel density than the D4X will have actually.

LOL>..you need the D300 now. :jump:
