Hi Everyone,
I shot this yesterday and wished I had increased my depth of field a bit and also not used the Teleconverter. I didn’t have time to use AF lock on this shot nor have I yet figured how use the other focus points, only the one in the centre, which is a bit limiting! Anyhow let me know what you think!
Nice one Paul, seems you get on well with the 600 AFS II, would have liked the tail to be less obscured but a excellent image of a bird rather underphotographed! On the D300 you can set various AF points, i believe anything from 9 upto 11 around 1 central AF point. You can then select it through the little switch at the back.

I have yet to get a really good shot of these. I find it very difficult to get a decent catchlight in order to lift the eye so quite envious of this one.
Send some to Wigan, not many at all round here, used to be hundreds now two or three where I live . There does seem to be a green cast, but a very nice shot anyway.
I’ve finally sorted out my problem with the auto-focusing! For some reason I had a brain-lock! On the D2Xs there were 11 actual points in the view finder and you could choose just one, anyone of them! On the D300 you just move the centre one too where you want it! Awesome, as it still gives you the same speed unlike the D2Xs!
Thanks for all your comments and critiques, appreciated as always! For those of you interested I have over ten Male House Sparrows visiting my feeders, not to mention females! I must be very fortunate!
Rene - I love the 600mm, I haven't put it down since I bought it!
