For those of you who read the Cloudland Journal, here is a shot I took early this morning in the same spot where I saw the bear yesterday - it is very dark and spooky in there. I thought I saw the bear again today but it turned out to be my big black camera bag, which I had left on the opposite side of the ravine...

Are there very many bear/human encounters in Arkansas that result in an attack Tim?

Nope. Only been one in modern day - a guy from Kansas who was camped along the Ozark Highlands Trail at Hare Mountain. One other undocumented one from a guy living near Pettigrew, but it sounded a little far-fetched to me (chased him up a tree and ate his toes). The one on Hare Mtn. was real - I found the bloody sleeping bag a couple hundred yards into the woods from where the guy was camping, and then saw his wounds later when I delivered his bag to him.

Still, I no longer keep food in my tent at night, just in case...

Love the darkness of this shot, and the bear story really plays into it well. Very cool.

Beautiful mood shot. This looks very peaceful - probably why the bears like it !!
